For John Dutton ’70 and Judy McNabney ’71 Dutton, including Valparaiso University in their estate plan was a natural continuation of a lifetime of gratitude.
Confident in the education Valpo provided, the couple began supporting the Valpo Fund early on to pay forward the financial aid John received. As John’s Caterpillar career progressed with overseas assignments, their generosity grew. Included were the University Guild and key campus projects like the Harre Union and Fites Innovation Center.
During President Alan Harre’s tenure, John and Judy became deeply committed to strengthening the University’s endowment — viewing it as a vital resource for future generations. This long-term focus guided their philanthropy.
Joining the Kretzmann Society marked the culmination of their years of support. Though Judy passed in 2024, the Valpo connection remains strong through lasting friendships. Seeking the greatest impact for their legacy, they chose Valpo as the primary beneficiary of their estate.
